Is it possible to add customized element into XML log file of CruiseControl ?

Hi All,

I would like to add my own custom element in XML log file produced by
cruisecontrol, like the following :

<cruisecontrol>
<myelement>
</myelement>
</cruisecontrol>

Application of adding such an element for me is to parse the log file
using XSL stylesheet for customized reporting.

I am using CC-2.6.1 with Ant.

Does somebody has an idea, if this could be achieved ? or any Idea on
the same is appreciated.

Thanks for your help in advance!

Regards.

In CruiseControl I can use something like this:

<modificationset quietperiod="1" >
<compound includeTriggerChanges="false">
<triggers>
<filesystem folder="./mod_file.txt" />
</triggers>
<targets>
<cvs
cvsroot=":pserver:***@cvs_repo.com:/cvs"
/>
</targets>
</compound>
</modificationset>

Our CVS administrator managed to write a trigger which touches a file whenever something is comitted into the CVS repository.

But this does not distinguish into which branch something is checked in.

Since we have two branches, one for active development line and one for release line, and thus two builds, we need a trigger which distinguishes on which branch something is checked in.

If something is checked into the active development line branch, then file A has to be touched, if something is checked into release line, file B has to be touched.

This seems to be very basic needs, but also very in-depth knowledge of CVS and Linux batch scripting needed, which I don't have.

Can someone please tell me how to accomplish this?

I know it is no CruiseControl question, but related to it.

I do the same thing in my setup. I generate a custom XML file called
log.xml using own elements, e.g.

<alpha>
<beta />
<gamma />
</alpha>

Then, from within cruisecontrol, I use the <merge> element in config.xml
pointing to the directory where the log.xml mentioned above lies. CC
then merges the content of the xml file to the cruisecontrol build log
file.

I also use my own XSL file afterwards to parse the cc build logs and
generate my own reports.

In our case, we generate the log.xml files in several ways.

1) using a python script
2) using XML outputter classes from within java
3) using a bash script

Essentially, you just have to generate a text file containing valid XML,
as shown in the example in a previous email. For all our custom
elements, we just used the simplemost method available.

As an example for case (3), a simple script that encapsulate the current
date into an XML-notation could look as follows:

#!/bin/bash
echo "<ourdate>" >log.xml
date >>log.xml
echo "</ourdate>" >>log.xml

Hope this helps.

Best.
